The Rapha House: Love, Rescue, Heal

One of the main reasons the Big Android BBQ is such a worthwhile event year after year is the generosity shown by YOU, the attendees. The BABBQ has raised thousands of dollars for different charities every year.

This year, we are proud to announce The Rapha House as the Big Android BBQ 2013 charity. In addition to bringing together the best and brightest Android developers and enthusiasts, we will be actively raising money for the Rapha House with the stellar Android community support from beginning to end.

The Rapha House is a non-profit organization committed to ending the trafficking and sexual exploitation of children. Founded in 2003, Rapha House helps to rescue and rehabilitate children, while bringing them to lasting freedom.

Why did we choose the Rapha House? Human trafficking is one of the fastest growing criminal businesses in the world following drug trade. We were shocked to learn about some frightening statistics on child slave labor and exploitation:

  • Throughout the world, millions of children live and labor as slaves today

    • It is estimated that up to 27 million people live in slavery today

    • More than 1.2 million children are sold every year according to UNICEF

    • 50% of trafficking victims are children according to the U.S. Department of Justice

The Rapha House restores victims of child slavery and sexual exploitation to sustainable freedom by partnering with advocates in building communities that extend unconditional love, physical rescue, and transformational healing. We hope to spread awareness of The Rapha House and their mission at this year’s BABBQ and we would love to have everyone’s support!.
