Why I Volunteer For The BABBQ: Ray Walters

Asking me why I cook every year for the Big Android BBQ is like asking a drug addict why they continually go back to using substances even though they know it’s not in their best interest; Because I love the feeling of watching 800 of my closest friends enjoying the food that I have spent days working on.  Add in the fact that I’m a raging geek and that this event brings together some of the most influential people in the Android community, and you have the perfect storm for someone like myself.

Cooking for an event of this size is a large task, one that leaves me sleepless for most of the event. It is stressful, tiring and causes me to go a bit balder. It does not pay a dime, indeed it costs me vacation and family time to come and cook.

That said, I would not miss it for the world.

If you’re on the fence about coming to the event, let me give you a push; attendees of the event have never regretted making the trip. Between the chance to meet many like-minded individuals and the chance to rub shoulders with influence makers in the Android Open Source community, being a Big Android BBQ attendee puts you in an environment to learn, collaborate and share about the Android Mobile OS and the technology that surrounds the event. And....you get some really awesome smoked meat!

I hope to see you there!
